With the explosive growth of gourmet coffee shops and increasingly sophisticated consumers who discuss the merits of "single origin" coffees over blends, cupping events introduce above average Joe to coffee drinkers stuck in their ways.
Paul and Cathy Ackley, co-proprietors of the Laguna Coffee Company with Peggy Warner, plan their next public cupping for Sunday, June 7. Having attended a coffeecupping course offered by an industry group and hosted four previous events, the Ackleys have just about mastered the ritual.

Paul and Cathy Ackley own Laguna Coffee Company and roast coffee beans right in the store.
Before Paul and Cathy Ackley owned Laguna Coffee Company, they were customers there for several years. In a way, the independent coffee shop helped bring the two together.
